My attempt at putting Samwise Gamgee's poem to music. Though the Mûmakil are mighty and terrifying beasts, the poem itself is very playful; so I decided that the Oliphaunt song should be a happy song for Hobbits to sing at the pub! In the Fellowship of the Ring film we get to hear a bit of Hobbit music at Bilbo's birthday party, and I figured this would be a fun opportunity to use that tune! Lyrics used from the poem, with a little adjusting/addition to adapt it into a song format.

The melody (credit to Howard Shore) was used as a starting point and brought to life using Suno, then edited together with additional vocals and instruments added by myself. Videos created using Leonardo-AI, Photoshop, and Minimax.

Hope you find this song to be a stomping good time!

*Lyrics:*

Grey as a mouse, big as a house,
Nose like a snake, I make the earth shake!
As I tramp through the grass, trees crack as I pass.
With horns in my mouth I walk in the South!
Flapping big ears, beyond count of years,
I stump round and round, never lie on the ground;
Not even to die!

Oliphaunt am I!

Biggest of all! Huge, old, and tall!
If ever you'd met me, you wouldn't forget me!
If you never do, you won't think I'm true!
But old Oliphaunt am I, and I never lie.
No I never lie!!!

Oliphaunt am I!

No I never lie,
Not even when I die.
If you see me passing by,
OLIPHAUNT AM I!!!!

Oliphaunt am I!
Old Oliphaunt am I!
