Since 2019, the number of electric flights has increased dramatically as consistent innovations in hybrid-electric motors and battery systems have become the norm in the personal transportation sector. Flying a fully electric commercial aircraft is of course still very ambitious by today’s standards, especially since the battery requirements to match the range of conventional aircraft using fossil fuels would have to be considerably lighter. For now, electric airplanes are limited to short-haul routes, but having more of these options in the future would definitely help improve the environmental impact of flying. Although we know that fully electric long-haul aircraft that can fly across most international routes will not be available within the next 20 years, recent advances have taken the technology to new heights, making electric commercial flights seem more attainable.
