A weekend challenge for the Facebook Group, Hardware Jams. The challenge was to make a track that included vocal elements.

I wanted to use a granular synth for the vocals so opted for a hybrid hardware/software setup. I sampled a capella of the Sade track ‘Is it a crime’ to create two layers; one used the Ableton Live Brain Grain Scanner for textural chords, on the other the sample is played in full (with ample reverb, echo and vocoder). The two mixed together really nicely to create a peaceful, ambient foundation for this track.

The song is in 6/8. The drums are a jazz kit from Live, the arp is Pigments 2, accompanied by the Peak and XD. All sequenced and controlled with Push 2.
