He first asked for a fish ball instead of buying the entire skewer claiming he was too full. In reality, the man wanted to test his kindness.
The street vendor, frustrated, offered to let him try one fish ball for free but he took the entire skewer instead, as well as another skewer.
Of course, he soon returned and ordered everything from the street vendor. The street vendor was happy and told the man that he was just about to pack up. So the man asked why he was leaving so early. It was only 8pm and most street vendors stay until at least 10. The reason? It was because he has a sick wife at home to tend to.
He sleep 11pm to 3am everyday. He has to wake up early to prepare for the ingredients for his food stand. Then, he start selling the street food before the early morning commuters arrived. He stay until it is 8 pm at night.
After his wife had a stroke 3 years ago, he hasn't stopped. Everyone depends on him. Including his son who is college age and in need of money as well as his two parents. They don't have retirement funds. So the entire family relies on him.
Hearing this, the man was even more moved. He felt bad that he dared to play such a prank even if temporary on a man who is already struggling. But at least he made up for it by buying everything from him.
To thank the street vendor, the man ordered a mattress for his wife. His wife couldn't understand anything and didn't remember anything when she first got out of the hospital. It's only because of him that she's able to now be aware of everything around her although she is still trying to regain use of her limbs.
Now this is a true man and a street vendor whose business is worth supporting.
