Several hundred apparel factory workers on Tuesday blockaded roads in Motijheel and Kamalapur areas in protest at a sudden closure of a garment factory owned by Awami League lawmaker Abdus Salam Murshedy.
They alleged that the factory owner who was a member of parliament from Khulna 4 constituency closed the factory without paying proper dues of the workers.
The workers put blockade on the roads in front of Notre Dame College and on the roads stretching from Arambagh to Kamalapur Rail Station crossing, said FM Bajlur Rashid, assistant commissioner of traffic Motijheel zone.
He said that soon after finding the notice of factory closure in Kamalapur and its relocation to Uttarkhan, the workers of Olio Apparels Limited took to the streets demanding their wages and dues.
A RMG factory worker Sheuli said that the notice was put up without any prior information and without paying dues to the workers.
