The anatomy of the foot plays a crucial role in walking by providing support, balance, and propulsion. The foot is divided into three main sections:

1. Hindfoot: Includes the heel bone (calcaneus) and ankle bone (talus), which bear weight and absorb shock upon heel strike. The talus connects to the tibia and fibula, forming the ankle joint for movement and stability.

2. Midfoot: Consists of the arch and bones like the navicular, cuboid, and cuneiforms, supported by ligaments and tendons. The arch acts as a spring, storing and releasing energy during the walking cycle.

3. Forefoot: Contains the metatarsals and phalanges (toes), which help push off the ground during the final phase of walking. The big toe provides the main propulsion force.

Walking involves a coordinated sequence of movements: heel strike, mid-stance (when the foot bears weight), and toe-off. The plantar fascia, muscles, and tendons work together to stabilize the foot and enable efficient movement.
