Millions died in proxy wars during the Cold War-era as the U.S. and Soviet Union avoided direct conflict, held back only by the threat of nuclear war. The phrase “Cold War” was first coined by George Orwell, author of 1984, who warned of a world caught in endless tension and control. His warning still resonates today, as global rivalries and nuclear dangers continue to shape our world.
