Pompeii. The name itself conjures images of disaster. Italian archaeologists undertake the first major excavation since the 1950’s of this Ancient Roman town. The multi- disciplinary team is laser-focused on capturing how the citizens and the enslaved lived before the deadly eruption.New discoveries, buried under 16-feet of volcanic pumice and ash, have already revealed dazzling works of art unseen for millennia. Archaeologists have uncovered a strikingly modern city complete with fast food roadside taverns and an ornate chariot that some have called the Lamborghini of the ancient world.
