She was teaching her daughter how to cook noodles and a man saw them and approached. Through asking, he found out that the woman has cancer of the intestines. She lost her ability to walk due to a side effect of the medication. Her doctors have warned her but she had to try anyway. She ended up being a statistic.
What's worse is that 1.5 years after her diagnosis, her husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He made the selfless decision to refuse treatment so all the money would go to her treatment. Now she is thinking about giving up as well so she can leave all the money to her daughter and son.
Her daughter is incredibly mature. She changes her brother's diapers, go out to make money without being asked. Even when the mother advised her not to. But she wanted to help. The mother was teaching her to cook so that if she pass away, the daughter can at least help out whoever adopts them.
Saying that made the woman swell up in tears. The man asked if he could get a bowl of noodles for free by exchanging a piece of art. He'll draw them. The woman agreed and asked if he could draw her husband in there as well as they didn't have the time to take pictures of all of them together. Her husband died quickly from kidney cancer.
The man agreed, they came back the next day with gifts as well as the portrait. You can tell how moved she was. But instead of $10 local currency for the noodles, he paid $60k in local currency instead. The woman had spent $150k in local currency for her treatment so far. So that was a significant amount.
The man wanted her to keep going with the treatment so that hopefully she'll recover. If she can make it past 5 years she has a good chance of recovery.
