Author Derek Shelmerdine in conversation with award winning show host Sam MacBeath, talking about his book Rock'n'Roll Unravelled. The story of rock'n'roll from its roots to mid-1970s punk. Not just the music but also the social factors which influenced the music, such as the Vietnam War and the American Civil Rights struggle.
Derek formed his own band, Cleo's Mood, with some schoolfriends in 1963. Derek was the drummer and they played in the North Wales, Liverpool, Chester area of the North West of England. The conversation explores the newly arrived beat group scene in the UK then and also how it developed across the 1960s, into the 1970s when the British University circuit became the venue of choice for the headlining bands at that time.
