Singer Farzana Wahid Shayan is known for her songs of protest.
In a recent interview with New Age, Shayan talked about her journey, her songs, what drives her to raise her voice against social and political injustice, ongoing cultural movement to establish voting rights and the freedom of expression and more.
New Age: When did you begin your journey? How many of your albums have been released? Would you please describe the music that you typically create?
Shayan: My musical journey began through my mother in my childhood. Gradually, songs became an important part of my life, and I planned to release albums. However, I realised the absence of a suitable market in the country for the songs that I used to create. As a result, I searched for an alternative profession and studied law. My debut album was released in 2008. My second and third albums were released in 2009. After that, I have been releasing songs as singles. My songs are the expressions of my experiences, thoughts, feelings and life. I have taken shelter in songs.
