Who was Friedrich Ebert? Germany will have a new chancellor in a few weeks. But who was the head of the first German democracy? Friedrich Ebert. On February 11, 1919, Ebert was elected the first Reich President in the young democracy, although he had enemies on both sides, far right and far left. On February 28, 1925 Ebert died unexpectedly at the age of 54 of appendicitis. A few days later, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation was founded, which campaigned for the education of workers and is now also active in development cooperation in more than 100 countries.
