Hi Everyone! Who’s scared of the big bad butterfly? 😂

I found this gorgeous Peacock butterfly hiding in our pallet store under a tarp on the allotment in December. We were building some more bays with the pallets to store wood chip and manure, typical winter jobs on the plot 😂

Apparently they hibernate in places like this over winter! I had no idea 🤷🏼‍♀️ being one of the common butterflies in the area, It’s not surprising that I’ve come across them.

They lay their eggs on nettles that the caterpillars then eat, which is a good reason to keep a patch of nettles around! One of the main food sources of the adult butterfly is the nectar of the buddleia, which explains why I’ve seen them all over the flowering bushes during summer 🤩

The toddler wasn’t too sure about it though 😂 but it definitely brightened up my December on the allotment!
