This is him 6 months on. He would pull a cart of coals to different street vendors and shops every day. 5 hours each way. 10 hours total. It earns him $26 in local currency daily everyday. It's not a lot but it's honest work.
Seeing him struggle everyday, one woman decided to document his story and his story brought tears to many people's eyes. The video went viral and he received a lot of donations. He was able to improve his living condition.
Most importantly they managed to help him secure pension although he never had a traditional career. But the money came with a dilemma, it wasn't enough to help him remain in the city he loves and lived at for decades. He has to return to him home town.
People encouraged him to retire now that he has pension and he said he would when he turn 70. He just turned 70 about a month ago in November or December of 2024. When the lady went back to see him, he was still working. He said that he wants to make proper farewells to his old customers. Many of whom have switched go gas and electric but still kept buying from him to keep him in business. He wants to make sure they are well.
The viral story also allowed him to finally achieve his dream of having savings in his bank account. He always used cash to pay for everything and now that he has a bank account with money in there, he was elated. He is also able to eat more meat more frequently now which he couldn't be happier about.
The woman's friend will drive him to his home town but he expressed his gratitude once again to viewers before leaving. It's the end of a chapter but he'll always be remembered in the city.
