Aquatic centres are a great place to exercise, but their year-round heating and cooling needs, to maintain the water temperature at a comfortable level, is extremely energy intensive.High efficiency heat pumps represent a promising solution to this huge challenge. In aquatic centres, heat pumps can simultaneously supply heating and cooling services and help councils to transition from gas and use more renewable electricity, both important steps for reducing fossil fuel emissions and long-term energy costs.
Australian Alliance for Energy Productivity (A2EP), Local Government Procurement (LGP) and Regional Development Australia (RDA), Sydney, brought together industry experts to explain the general energy challenges of aquatic centres and the potential for heat pumps to deliver significant reductions in energy usage and costs.
This is an excellent presentation for local government sustainability managers, facilities managers, asset managers and related council staff to hear first-hand how other councils have introduced this technology and brought about energy and cost savings in their aquatic centre operations.
