Inspect or replace the exhaust manifold or gasket when you hear puffing noise, ticking noise, tapping sound at cold start and the noise gradually goes away as the engine warms up.Check for cracks or loose exhaust manifold caused by possibly a broken exhaust bolt if you smell exhaust fumes and see smoke coming out of the exhaust area.
Pay attention for poor engine performance, check engine light, slow acceleration, oxygen sensor codes as it can be signs of an exhaust system issue.
