This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia. Our test model is the Giulia T1 Sport in Verde Visconti Metallic, a lovely green colour. I’ve found it difficult to capture the beauty of this colour in my pictures; it looks quite stunning in person and changes based on light, angles and reflections. This Alfa Giulia has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque. It has a top speed of 240 km/h/149 mph and it’s AWD only in Canada. In the US, RWD and AWD are available. There is also another engine available in the Giulia, a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 with 505 horsepower. The Quadrifoglio is a different beast, but this turbo-charged 4-cylinder engine is still impressive with its crisp driving dynamics. The iconic V Scudetto Grille, first introduced in 1934 has evolved many times over the years. In Italian, scudetto means little shield and when you see this grille, you know it’s an Alfa Romeo; it distinguishes them from other brands. The Sport front fascia on the T1 Sport models has large air intakes to supply more cool air in order to boost performance. Our test model has 19” dark 5-hole aluminum wheels with yellow brake calipers and black Alfa Romeo script. There are black accents throughout the exterior including, a dark grille, dark mirror caps and badging. The active driver assistant package on this T1 Sport is standard, it includes, active blind spot assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam headlamp control, driver attention alert, intelligent speed assist, lane keep assist and traffic jam assist. The Alfa Romeo Giulia had an interior refresh in 2020 and it needed it. It does not come with the biggest touchscreen in its class; it has an 8.8” screen. You can still control the screen with the centre console dial similar to BMW. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class comes standard with a 10.25” touchscreen and a 12.3” digital instrument cluster. In the Giulia you’ll find a 7” full colour instrument cluster. The BMW 3-series comes standard with the same size screen as the Giulia, an 8.8” but you can upgrade to a 10.3” screen. As for the Audi A4, it comes standard with a 10.1” touchscreen. Other standard features on the Giulia include, heated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Our test model has some extra features through a package like sport seats, heated rear seats, a cargo net, wireless charger and Harman Kardon Audio system. Leather seats are a big one; they come standard on the Giulia. The 3-series and C-Class come standard with leatherette and the A4 has leather-seating surfaces. All of the German brands offer ventilated front seats as an option, but the Giulia doesn’t offer this feature on any trim. Size wise, the Giulia is equivalent to the BMW 3-series, C-Class and Audi A4 when it comes to 2nd row legroom and rear headroom. It does have a little more front legroom than the others. The G70 offers the least amount of 2nd row space.
