At the same time, it has felt a bit awkward to make my own training and racing a focal point of Singletrack content. This channel has always been about the professionals, the high-profile races, and the business of the sport. But toward the end of last year, I had an idea: If I’m going to build a media outlet that analyzes performance and offers insights into the pro ultrarunnig scene, I should get in the trenches—at least once—not just talk about it, but to be about it. Even if that puts me nowhere near the stratosphere of the elites, the experience would be interesting.
So, last fall, I put the plan in motion. I hired a coach (Tyler Green) to guide my training, a nutritionist (Vic Johnson) to refine my fueling, and a videographer (Noah Reese) to document the journey. We also partnered with brands that not only support the Singletrack media schedule but also help me push my own performance to the highest possible level.
One of those brands is @naak and I’m proud to continue our partnership through 2025 (and beyond). When I toe the start line at TGC this Friday, I’ll be using their new BOOST product to put what I’d call the “reasonable carb fueling” hypothesis to the test.
Excited to share the journey. Let’s go.
