Dixieland jazz is a musical style that originated in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. "Dixie" is a nickname for the southeastern part of the United States since the time of the Civil War. The style was created as a result of the meeting of cultures - European and African. The importation of slaves from Africa brought together the black culture where music and rhythm are an integral part of everyday life and the tuned instruments with the precise sounds of Western culture. From this meeting of rhythm and precise musical instruments, Dixieland Jazz was born. The style developed at the beginning of the 20th century and became popular and gained momentum from 1917 when it was also called "New Orleans jazz" and was considered one of the first styles in jazz, and the first to be recorded on audio recordings.
