To create the patch and achieve that electric tone, I found the "Shrats" wavetable from Serum's stock library to be the perfect starting point. By positioning its wavetable all the way to the right and FM-ing it with an "Acid" wavetable (also in Serum's stock library), essentially a low-passed saw wave with a lot of resonance, we can create an aggressive FM patch similar to Imagine's Mars music.
To spice the sound and give it some gritiness, a high-pass filter with resonance and drive, set to remove some of the lower frequencies, is the perfect tool for the job.
To finish the sound, we will:
1. Introduce movement with a staircase-like LFO set to a slow rate, such as one bar, modulating the wavetable position of oscillator A.
2. Create a sense of space with reverb and delay.
