Meet Aaron Bowen! Aaron and I connected via Instagram - I’m not sure how I became aware of his video clips, but I started watching and liking them. A little while later he contacted me and asked if he could send me some of his Ethiopian Peaberry coffee that he roasts at home in an old iron skillet. This boded well for our future friendship!I started listening to Aaron’s music and came to find out that some of the vocals on his last record were first take improvisations, including the lyrics. This fascinated me to no end, so when the opportunity to sit down together and talk presented itself I knew I wanted to ask him about how he developed the skill to improvise melody and words, as well as his perspective on improvisation in general.
