The Haleyy Baylee Effect: Decentering Celebrities & Influencers... Or Are We?

Influencer and model Haleyy Baylee is being accredited with accidentally starting a divestment movement from celebrity/ influencer culture after she posted a TikTok in a lovely, handmade gown outside of the Met Gala, using the popular sound “let them eat cake”. In response, the youths on TikTok have begun a trend called Blockout 2024 where they are encouraging people to block both celebrities and influencers who have not spoken out about mainly the happenings in Palestine.

In this video, we explore the response to Hailey Bailey, the trend, and my speculations on why this will more than likely soon lose momentum.
