🖤 Ailein Duinn (Dark-Haired Alan) – Caitlin Grey | Traditional Scottish Gaelic Lament
'Ailein Duinn' is a haunting traditional Scottish Gaelic lament, beautifully reimagined by Celtic singer Caitlin Grey. Sung in the ancient language of the Highlands, this pure-voice performance is both mournful and mesmerising — a sorrowful tale of love lost to the sea.
🖤 “Ailein Duinn, o hi shiùbhlainn leat…” – The words are a woman’s anguished cry to her drowned beloved, a sailor lost to the deep. One of the most moving laments of the Gaelic tradition, the song was famously featured in the film Rob Roy, sung by Karen Matheson.
This version appears on Caitlin Grey’s second Celtic album, 'The Promise', known for its ethereal arrangements and emotionally rich storytelling.
