From Los Angeles, Medicine were the first American band signed to Alan McGee's Creation Records roster, before Bob Mould's 'Sugar' and 'Velvet Crush'. Brad Laner and Beth Thompson formed an MBV - esque line-up configuration so it made perfect sense that they would be signed to the same label as The Valentines. Brad Laner's guitar sound was something to behold and still turns heads to this very day. In this video, I analyse how he accomplished this signature "harsh drill" sound. A very unorthodox approach that's for sure!
After their debut 'Shot Forth Self Living', medicine signed to American Records for 'The Buried Life'. Their 3rd album, 1995's 'Her Highness' would be the last with Beth Thompson until 2013. Since the 2010's the band have incorporated a lot more modular synthesis to their sound.
