On 30 April 1997, ITN followed the leaders of the UK's three main political parties around the country on the last day of campaigning in that year's general election. The last leg of Conservative Party leader and UK Prime Minister John Major's campaign took him to Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and finally Wembley Stadium. Labour Party leader Tony Blair addressed supporters in Stockton-on-Tees before making a flying visit to Scotland. And Paddy Ashdown, leader of the Liberal Democrats, held a press conference in Church House in London, where he and deputy leader Alan Beith spoke of the successes of the Liberal campaign.
