On 28 September 1966, ITN's John Edwards interviewed Alfred Seidl, the lawyer of Hitler's former deputy Rudolf Hess, about the ongoing campaign to release Hess from Spandau Prison. Since being tried at Nuremburg alongside other senior Nazis including Albert Speer, Hess had been residing at Spandau. But now, after serving 20 years in prison, Speer was being released, leaving Hess as Spandau's sole inmate. Seidl and others argued Hess should be released on grounds of insanity, but with his continued incarceration at Spandau giving the Soviet Union a reason to station troops in West Berlin, his release was not likely to come any time soon.
