A dangerous heat wave has gripped much of Europe, resulting in the deaths of at least eight people and leaving hundreds more hospitalized.

Temperatures have soared across the continent, peaking around 40 C in some places.

The sweltering start to the summer is endangering vulnerable people, disrupting daily live, and upending travel plans.
