A fantastic tour around the island of Taiwan with a group of cyclist friends from Singapore. Not only did we use Route No 1, but we also traveled a lot inland to maximize the experience. There were long flat stretches e.g. on the coast (with a headwind of course) as well as long climbs (the longest was 13km). We also cycled the old Sohua Highway on the east coast with breathtaking views from the cliffs (highly recommended). The route was put together for us by Ian from “Epic Ride Taiwan” (www.epicridetaiwan.com). They also provided us with a van with a driver who drove our luggage from hotel to hotel and (what was even better) provided us with drinks, fresh fruits, energy gels, etc. throughout the day. In the event of an emergency (which we unfortunately had at the end of day 8), the relevant bike and cyclist could be transported. Overall, an absolutely wonderful tour that I would happily repeat. Or maybe a tour in Japan or Korea next year?

51:08 - Day 8, Hualien to Jiaoxi (The old Sohua Highway. Absolutely stunning views, highly recommended. 2 long steep climbs but worth every cm)
1:00:23 - Day 9, Jiaoxi to Guandu (Our last day. We reached to northern point and going back where we have sytarted. Heavy thunderstorm the last 40km)
