As someone originally from Western Europe, I think I’m in a good position to make a fair comparison between the two. And when I do, I can’t help but say that the East is ten times nicer than the West.
Cities that convinced me the East is better:
My first trip to Eastern Europe was to Riga, Latvia, where I studied for half a year. I was immediately struck by how clean, safe, and peaceful it was.
Then, as I traveled to larger cities like Warsaw, Budapest, and Belgrade, I started to notice a pattern. For some reason, every city east of Germany, Austria, and Italy gave me the same feeling.
Most of them were peaceful, clean, and welcoming to travelers.
Compare that to Western Europe, where the major cities often fall short. Take Brussels, for example. It has a charming old town and great fries and waffles, but beyond that, it’s one of the ugliest, dirtiest, and most unsafe cities in Europe.
Paris? I have a love-hate relationship with it. It’s undeniably beautiful, but also very dirty and fairly unsafe. The same goes for most of the other Western cities I featured in the reel. Sure, they all have amazing spots—but those are usually only accessible to the wealthy.
Eastern Europe, on the other hand, feels like it’s for everyone—and it welcomes everyone.
Feel free to disagree, and let me know why! 😁🙏
