Track 15
A Lantern Rite Journey
Part 3: The Romance of Liyue
Lovers' Oath is extremely well covered, so I wanted to write something that added to the conversation. A lot of the covers I've heard are a bit more straightforward in order to let the melody shine, but I really wanted to replicate the movement in the strings, including the parts that aren't the main melody.
To that end, I had the crazy idea of trying to write this in 4 voices, and I think it came out pretty decent. Each voice has an interesting line and nuance, it's decently ergonomic, and it doesn't sound like a bad fugue haha. It was a bit challenging to write new melodies that fit both the hand and the top voice, but it worked out.
I do think I played a bit stiffly and a few clicks too slow. I wanted a tempo that was a bit slower than the original to add to the bittersweet feeling, but at the recorded tempo it makes the notes feel a touch clunky.
Either ways, I hope you enjoy this arrangement that's a bit different!
Oh, I also forgot to turn on my key light for this recording, but it actually added to the vibe a bit.
