A new kind of theatre has taken over Istanbul’s historic peninsula — one that fuses ancient legend with cutting-edge technology. Legends of Istanbul is an immersive stage experience unlike anything seen in Türkiye before. Just steps from the Hagia Sophia, the show uses digital scenography, translucent screens, and choreographed live performance to bring eight of the city’s most iconic myths to life.

From Medusa and Hezârfen Ahmet Çelebi to Hurrem Sultan and Mehmed the Conqueror, the cast embody multiple characters through dance, physical theatre, and synchronized visual storytelling. Director Murat Ceylan shares how the production uses massive digital projections instead of sets, while performers reveal what it’s like to act while completely cut off from the audience.

This is myth, movement, and memory — reimagined for a new generation.
