Google featured this art of Dr. Fe Del Mundo, the “Angel of Santo Tomas”, a female pediatrician during the deadly Battle of Manila in World War II. But that’s not the only reason why she’s amazing. Her full name was Fé Primitiva del Mundo y Villanueva. As Manila was being viciously destroyed, Del Mundo served as a Red Cross volunteer and established a children's branch in an internment camp at the University of Santo Tomas, where Del Mundo provided care primarily to children. Del Mundo is also known to be the first Asian woman admitted to Harvard Medical School. After the war, Del Mundo sold her home to build her own hospital known as the Children's Medical Center Foundation. Del Mundo's studies also contributed to the treatment of jaundice, and even invented a bamboo incubator to help underprivileged families. Despite being bound to a wheelchair, Del Mundo continued her selfless service until her death in 2011.
