"The wolf approached. I saw it in it's eyes... the hunger.
I was but flesh.
It was but hungry.
It's only natural.
It approached, and I daresay it saw something in me. It pounced and I suddenly found only blackness. As I passed from the light, I thought this flight from reality to to be my bodies last act of kindness: to spare me teeth and claws and death.
And then I was warm. I opened my crusted eyes and smelt the stink of fur and it was an intoxicating perfume to me. I know not why the wolf chose to spare me, to give me his warmth... but I know that my journey is no longer alone.
For the first time in my life... I have slept peacefully"

"I wonder if this wolf is one of the tricksters... It's shape seems to morph and change, I swear it. It is not a trick of the snow, or my eyes, or the months of starvation.
But... whatever the beast is, it is a companion that is strangely loyal... and it is my only friend. And does not a friend need a name?
I have called him many names, but he looks at me with those fearsome eyes when I call him Griz, and I believe there is an understanding there."
