Electioneering in Narayanganj City Corporation polls took a new turn on Monday as local lawmaker and Awami League leader Shamim Osman asked the activists of the ruling party and its associate bodies to rally behind Selina Hayat Ivy, the party candidate for mayor post.
Amid the development, Awami League-backed candidate Ivy and her rival, independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker, both expressed their concerns about the influence of ‘evil-forces’ and local administrations in the electioneering.
They expressed their fear over election centric violence in the coming days.
The election in Narayanganj City Corporation will be held on January 16 with seven candidates seeking the mandate from about five lakh voters for the mayor post.
The electioneering saw a dramatic development this week after Ivy labelled Shamim as ‘godfather’ in one of her campaigns.
