A few days after driving our newly bought BMW E91 320D from Belgium to France, the turbo decided to call it quits—so Philippe had no choice but to roll up his sleeves and take on one of his biggest mechanical challenges yet. With plenty of research, some frustrating moments, and a few victory cries, he managed to replace the turbo while also tackling other worn-out parts, like the crankshaft pulley, EGR valve, and inlet manifold.
In between the hard work, we tackled some more mundane (but necessary) tasks, like cleaning out the van—because those pesky dog hairs just refuse to be vacuumed! We also made sure to enjoy some quality time outside as a family, appreciating the simple joys of country life.
By the end of the week, Philippe can proudly say he fixed the car! Now, all that’s left is for the French paperwork to come through—then we can finally hit the road and start cruising.
After editing this video, I can also proudly say that I now understand what certain car parts are called and how they work. Who knows what else we’ll learn along the way? That’s what life is all about: tackling challenges and learning as you go!
