Watch in HD!!!!! This is a short drum cover of 'Everybody Dies' by J. Cole. I love this song, and its a lot of fun to vibe on. There's nothing crazy going on in the drums, and I was more-so focused on scaling back a bit to fit the song.
I started using the Benny Greb Signature Series Crasher Hats, and I absolutely LOVE them... They're SO MUCH FUN, and I can't believe I didn't get something like that sooner. I switched up my cymbal setup as well in this video. Im using a bunch of my favorite cymbals by Meinl. I don't normally use this cymbal setup because they're a bit more delicate to be playing a lot of the heavier stuff that I normally play.
I also switched up the snare I normally use with my new Starclassic Maple. The finish is Light Jade Burst, and it looks gorgeous.
Some mix notes... I tried going with a more focused drum mix for this. I dialed back my room mic's so the drums sounded a bit more dry, and I actually didn't use that much processing at all on the individual tracks. The most I did was some gating on the kick and snare, a cut around the low-mids on my kick, and some compression/EQ on the entire stereo bus. I was very please with how the drums recorded that day that I decided to try and leave as much of it untouched as possible.
Hope ya dig!
