When Scotty was younger, he'd sometimes lose control, even at little things like if someone told him 'no'. Screaming and crying, he'd tear his room apart. Through tears, he would ask his mum, "Why do I get so upset?" It didn't feel like a choice.

He was about five when his parents explained he had fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, or FASD. His biological mum had drunk alcohol when she was pregnant. Suddenly for Scotty, everything started to make sense. This brought the Alice Springs 14-year-old worries many people — like teachers and police — don't really understand FASD.
