Ренан, дзэнский мастер, жил простой жизнью в маленькой хижине у подножья горы.Однажды вечером в его хижину забрался вор и с недоумением обнаружил, что там нечего украсть. Вскоре вернувшийся Ренан застал вора.
- Ты прошел такой долгий путь, чтобы навестить меня, - сказал Ренан бродяге.
- И ты не должен вернуться с пустыми руками. Пожалуйста, возьми в подарок мою одежду.
Вор был ошарашен. Он взял одежду и потихоньку ушел.
Ренан сидел нагой перед хижиной, любуясь луной.
- Бедный парень, - задумчиво сказал он. - Мне бы так хотелось подарить ему эту прекрасную луну.

Renan, a Zen master, lived a simple life in a small hut at the foot of the mountain.
One evening a thief climbed into his hut and was perplexed to find that there was nothing to steal. Renan returned soon after and found the thief.
“You've come such a long way to visit me,” Renan told the tramp.
“And you mustn't come back empty-handed. Please take my clothes as a gift.
The thief was dumbfounded. He took his clothes and quietly left.
Renan sat naked in front of the hut, gazing at the moon.
“Poor guy,” he said thoughtfully. - I would so like to give him this beautiful moon.
