Pete Best was the Beatles' drummer for two years before he was suddenly sacked by manager Brian Epstein in August 1962.
There are so many contradictory accounts. Was it jealousy? Did Brian Epstein want to distance the Beatles from their previous mentors, people like Pete's mother Mona and promoter Sam Leach? Producer George Martin says that he never told anyone to sack Pete Best. He just wanted to bring in a studio drummer for the recordings.
In The Beatles Anthology book, John Lennon says, "We were always going to dump him".
Who and Why was Pete sacked? I guess it just depends who you're talking to! Pete himself in an interview in 2018 says, “To this day, hand on heart, I don’t know the actual reason why I was fired”.
