* Decomposition: Breakdown of dead organisms by microorganisms, releasing carbon dioxide.
* Fossilisation: Formation of fossil fuels from undecayed organic matter.
* Combustion: Burning of fossil fuels and plant matter, releasing carbon dioxide.
