This 12-bar blues track is based on the Dorian scale in G minor. This results in the following chords:
G minor (with or without a seventh) as the root = 1
C major (with or without a seventh) as the subdominant = 4
I still chose D major 7th as the chord on the 5th degree, even though the 5th degree of a Dorian scale is technically a minor chord. The augmented ninth seventh chord is a very colorful, tense chord. The seventh, in this case C, already creates tension. But the augmented ninth, E# (this note has the same pitch as an F, but is called E# because it is the augmented ninth and not the minor third), creates the typical harmony often heard in the turnaround of the 12-bar blues.
The chord diagrams show guitar chords where needed. The Nashville notation shows the degrees of the chords on the G major scale.
