Today, we pit the Harley Benton SC Junior in Black against the Harley Benton DC-60 Junior in Pelham Blue in the battle of the affordable Junior style guitars!

Now, I love a single P90 pickup guitar, because they’re so simple and they basically force you to focus on just playing. Plus, the raw aggression of a P90 into an overdriven amp is one of the best sounds out there!

The SC Junior (which is clearly based on the iconic Gibson Les Paul Junior) and the DC-60 Junior (which is an SG Junior style) are some of the best and most affordable guitars of this type I’ve found. For under €200/$200 dollars each, you get a lot for your money: both guitars have mahogany bodies and necks topped with amaranth fingerboards, and each is equipped with a single Roswell P90 dogear pickup.

You also get Wilkinson Deluxe tuners, a WSC wraparound bridge, and a neck that’ll suit Gibson fans down to the ground: 22 medium jumbo frets, a 24.75” scale length, 12” fingerboard radius, and a comfy C shape that should be suitable for just about any hands.

So, in theory, what we have here are two pure and simple rock and roll machines – and what we’re going to do today is found out which does it better! In the video, I put the guitars through their paces in a variety of musical styles and genres, from country and pop to indie, rock, punk, and even a bit of metal. Which guitar do you prefer?

I ran the guitars into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head, also using my Greer Lightspeed and Revv G3 pedals for the overdrive and distortion sounds. The amp went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done.

Here’s some links to those bits of gear:
