**Solaris – Burning Super Session II**, issued in 1978 on Yupiteru Records (catalog YJ25-7014), is the second entry in the short-lived trilogy of Japanese jazz-fusion **“Super Session”** albums recorded in Tokyo that year. Clocking roughly 39 minutes over five tracks, it melds spacey fusion motifs, tight funk grooves and early synth textures.

The project is anchored by bassist-vibraphonist Isao Suzuki (acoustic piccolo bass, washtub bass, vibraphone), with Tsuyoshi Yamamoto on piano/E-piano/Solina, Mikio Masuda on synthesizers, Kazumasa Akiyama on guitar, Tsutomu Okada on bass, Keiji Kishida on drums, Tatsuji Yokoyama on percussion.

Although it received no coverage in major Western outlets at release, its high-gloss production and limited Japanese LP pressings (complete with obi strip) have turned sealed copies into collector’s prizes, trading for USD 40–150 on eBay and specialty shops. In recent years, full-album uploads on YouTube have drawn hundreds of views, cementing its status as a cult favorite among fusion aficionados.

**Release & Recording**

Label & Date: Yupiteru Records YJ25-7014, released 1978 in Japan.

**Sessions:**

Recorded June 5–6, 1978 at Teichiku Suginami Studio, Tokyo, during the same period as Burning Super Session I and III.

**Music & Personnel**

Band Context: Burning Men was a one-off fusion ensemble led by veteran bassist Isao Suzuki, part of the late-’70s Japanese jazz-fusion surge alongside groups like Casiopea.

Instrumentation: Suzuki’s vibraphone and booming bass underpin tight funk rhythms; Yamamoto’s keys and Masuda’s synth add harmonic depth; Akiyama’s guitar weaves melodic lines; Okada, Kishida and Yokoyama lock into a driving rhythm section; Ohno’s scat appears on select passages.

Though niche, these sessions influenced subsequent Japanese fusion acts by showcasing how electronic keyboards and Western funk rhythms could blend with jazz improvisation.
