He is currently serving a five year sentence in Lagos, Nigeria’s Kirikiri prison on a trumped up ‘currency smuggling’ charge. Fela recently wrote from jail… ‘I will never never stop fighting. This jail only makes me stronger and I hope it’s giving my people more courage to do their part in the struggle.”

(this is not not the version of Army Arrengement mixed by Bill Laswell -- that is also available on this channel -- while Fela was serving five year sentence in Kirikiri prison. When Fela next emerged from jail said "What Bill Laswell has done is not African music the way I hear it" and "anything that changes the natural sound of my instruments, I don't use. I will not do music with computers and electronic gadgets because African music is natural sound." and decided to mix his own version and this is the result).
