In my opinion too many people listen with their eyes. They’ll read an opinion on a forum and hear a bunch of hype and become convinced they need x piece of gear. I like blind tone tests to force you to rely on your ears. I used the stock pickups in the Epiphone 335 and the Squier Classic Vibe Jazzmaster, and the fretwire humbuckers cost me $20 on Amazon a few years ago. These low end or stock pickups vs a boutique pickup such as the Lambertones Cremas at $300 should be a slam dunk right? Think again. And why throw a Jazzmaster in there? Well again use your ears.
