The streets of Naples resembled a war zone on Wednesday as violent clashes broke out between Eintracht Frankfurt fans and local police as Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt FC geared up for the hotly anticipated second leg of their Champions League last-16 game.

Eintracht fans had been banned from the game following unrest during the first leg of their two game fixture. Hundreds of ticketless Eintracht fans nevertheless arrived in the city, clashing with local police. Police in riot gear used tear gas to disperse the fans who threw chairs and shot projectiles and flares at the officers.
