Today there was a crazy situation involving the official glitch twitter posting a crypto coin for the gaslight district. Let me explain. So at 12am on twitter glitch’s co founder kevin put out a warning that the main glitch twitter was hacked.
An hour later the glitch twitter reposted a crypto coin called the gaslight district, saying it was official. After 7 minutes the account disappeared. So what exactly happened?
Basically the account was hacked by crypto bros and advertised the coin to scam people. After 10 minutes they did what’s called a rug pull, where the people behind the coin sell all of it at once which tanks the chart and they walk away with whatever money they made. We can see it on the chart here, where it reaches the peak and then drops through the floor when they all sell.
The entire thing seems like a waste of time, because i guarantee you nobody who watches indie animation knows what a crypto wallet or a solana is. The post was only up for 10 minutes too. So the only people scammed were the other crypto investors dumb enough to buy in. I reckon they made in the range of 10 to 30 thousand dollars off the situation.
Overall i think this situation is hilarious because if the scammers were smarter they could’ve done something far worse, like leaking upcoming episodes or behind the scenes messages.
