"I'm doing all right. I was in a, yeah, it's been both things. It's been really harrowing to be in Los Angeles. I'm a native, born and raised. I think seeing the destructions of neighborhoods, particularly in Altadena, the fires really decimated a historic black neighborhood. So that's really touched and hurt my heart. But there's also been such an incredible outpouring of community and support. And I think that has been really incredibly inspiring. And I think we live in times not just in Los Angeles, I will say in America and in the world at large, where what is required of us is really compassion and community more than ever. So to see that modelled in Los Angeles, I really hope that we can continue to keep that up. It's not something that we need just post-disaster. I think it's something that we need to avoid disaster."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Tessa Thompson, actor - on crying watching movies:
"'Yeah, I'm feeling a lot of things which means I'm like crying in every film. Literally. I've seen more films than I have here in days and I'm like weepy in every single one of them."
(Reporter: "Is there any where you're like 'oh my god, why am I crying in this?'")
"No, all of them I'm like, It makes sense and I'm crying in this moment, you know? But definitely last night in the 9:30 p.m. screening of 'Sly Lives!,' I was also sat next to the filmmaker Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson. So, I was like just feeling a little embarrassed to be like, 'Sorry.' Also like to these really energetic Sly songs, just to be like silently weeping also feels discordant. But listen, it is what it is."
(Reporter: "Sly would've appreciated it.")
"I think so too, honestly. I'm sure he made lots of ladies cry, so it's probably satisfying his legacy."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) James Mangold, director - on LA wildfires:
(Reporter: "And so you are back in your house? It's okay?")
"Yeah. We only had to evacuate a short time. But because of the winds, the power company keeps cutting off the juice, which makes life a struggle. But certainly nothing in compare to what others have had to contend with."
(Reporter: "So talk to me about why it was important for you to come here in this time that's been such a harrowing time in LA.")
"Well, first we can talk about it, and we have to keep on living. And second, the work here is important. It's important for our culture. It's not just important for launching movies. It's important for new voices to rise and an old cranks like me to poke around in and meet them."
