The eardrum (tympanic membrane) plays a crucial role in hearing by vibrating in response to sound waves, transmitting these vibrations to the middle ear bones. It also acts as a barrier, protecting the middle ear from infections and foreign particles.

A ruptured eardrum occurs due to infections, trauma, or sudden pressure changes, leading to symptoms like pain, hearing loss, ringing (tinnitus), and possible discharge. In most cases, it heals naturally, but severe cases may require medical intervention.
