The Cantilena Antiqua ensemble was founded in Bologna in 1987 by Stefano Albarello, who still directs it. Cantilena Antiqua's productions and research are very original and their discography includes both sacred and profane repertoire. In Epos an early medieval repertoire dating back to the Carolingian era is performed.
In my opinion, the beauty of this performance is largely determined by Stefano Albarello's voice and his lyre which make the whole album extremely emotional and ancestral.
Concerning the video, I used a Carolingian manuscript called Ms. 18 from the Bibliothèques d'Amiens. Considering the repertoire played, I think it was a perfect choice.
